These are some of the most common questions the BCCA-IN team receives from newcomers looking for a construction career in Canada.

If your question is not here, or it's more specific, please get in touch with us by emailing newcomers@bccassn.com

My construction experience is limited, should I still apply?

Yes. The construction industry has a variety of positions available from trades to professionals and support positions. Our Skills Assessor can help you learn how you and your skills fit into the industry.

My trade is very different in Canada, can I still work?

Our Skills Assessor will be able to help you understand how your skills can fit in the BC construction industry. Each person and their skill set is specific, please contact us today to discuss your specific scenario.

There is a lot of information I can include on my resume, why should I keep it short?

Most often, it is a very busy owner or manager who reviews the resumes. You should be detailed but be straight-forward and to the point.

Will BCCA-IN help me get a job?

We cannot guarantee you a job. We can assist you by helping to put all the necessary elements in the right place (employer connections, interview preparation, settlement services etc.) to help you find and secure employment in British Columbia.

What's the best advice for construction job seekers?

Be proactive. We can help make the connection with potential employers but you'll need to be focused and dedicated to your own job search.

Can I reach out to employers via email to inquire about job opportunities?

Yes! Cold-calling and emailing is encouraged. Always be respectful and patient.

Who should I contact at a construction company for employment?

The owner or the HR manager. While conducting your research, you should be able to find this information online through the company website or LinkedIn.

Should I try to find work in a city or small town?

To have the greatest chance of success for your job search, you may want to consider where the jobs are. The more flexible you are with your job search location and options, the more likely you are to be successful in your job search.
